    (here is me worrying about libel suits five years ago). Now of course the threat to current libel standards isn't Trump. It's the call for Scotus reconsideration by Justice Gorsuch.)

    wait, what -- did they really say that a reporter retweeting an article after a defamation suit was filed can be evidence of reckless disregard for the truth--enough evidence for the suit to go forward? please write about this so someone explains it.

    Not sure I see the difference between "widespread" and "significant" here. There needs to be some adjective lest media get subject to a gotcha came with fraudulent fraud squad members who latch onto small scale fraud and parlay it into a claim of a false statement.

    using this to plug an old article on judging religious sincerity . these kinds of claims are hard to evaluate before they reach court though courts should be able to evaluate like they would any other kind of claim

    Practically speaking, how do you limit religious exemptions for vaccines? The EEOC says generally 1) no need for recognition by an organized religion and 2) objections can be based on beliefs that are sincerely held but new, uncommon or “seem illogical or unreasonable to others.”

    I know I’m in the minority here, but I feel like trying to underplay a historic spike in homicides (and a likely spike in shootings) by pointing out that all OTHER crimes mostly fell is a not a great strategy for reformers. It actually plays into Tough-on-Crime’s hands.

    My kid’s unfazed by masks. And last year, I argued for masking in schools, based on mask efficacy for adults. At some point, when you realize that in-school efficacy data is basically MIA, and you have always known that there is a cost to young kids (🧵), it’s worth rethinking.

    This issue runs very hot so let me say I don't agree with some of this (I think the evidence supports masks in school rn). And I do think choices for parents in poor communities with covid exposure were very very difficult. But yes, hard truths:

    On one hand, I'm glad that a lot of hard truths are being acknowledged now. On the other hand, I rewrote this sentence like 4 times to take out all the f-words.
