Some of us with attention deficit and various other issues find subtitles distracting and would like the option to avoid them if they're not necessary. But I'd much rather have them always on than not have them available!

Yes, my OCD makes me alwaysalwaysalways read the text and also do weird counting things with it and it makes it hard for focus on the movie. If I'm with ppl who need the subtitles, obviously we turn them on. But it's much better for me, personally, with them off.

I am Norwegian and I have English subtitles on. It all depends on the speed and clarity of speech of the overall cast and I like the full movie experience.

I prefer subtitles to dubbing. I can't get passed the 'Lip movement to words said' disparagy. (There's an easier way to say that but I can't think at the moment) and once settled in you forget you're reading the words.
