Numbers don't physically exist, they're a virtual construct we use to make many things tractable. When I say that the variable x holds the value 7 I don't mean that somewhere in the computers memory there is a physical 7. That would be impossible and therefore a silly claim. 1/?
However if computers had naturally hanged out in the environment since before the stone age people would have gone numbers physically exist in computers -> numbers are represented as bits which physically exist in computers -> bits are represented as electrical currents

While this process would have happened as people learned more about computers most of the knowledge about how to deal with these entities would not have been invalidated.

I therefore see the best way to honor beliefs about supernatural entities to not treat them as claims about things which physically exist but as claims about things which are physically represented.
