WHO is complicit as well:
"There is no specific evidence to suggest that the wearing of masks by the mass population has any potential benefit. In fact, there's some evidence to suggest the opposite in the misuse of wearing a mask properly or fitting it properly," - @DrMikeRyan

Here is a useful primer on the benefits of masks. I plan to summarize in a separate thread, but it is worth reading in fullhttps://medium.com/@Cancerwarrior/covid-19-why-we-should-all-wear-masks-there-is-new-scientific-rationale-280e08ceee71 …

In closing, it's clear that the CDC is beginning to walk-back some of their original "don't bother with a mask" narrative--it's about time. We must not forget what they did in the short term to try & buy themselves a little time, & we must demand accountability from leadership.

The limited supply of masks in this country should be reserved for the front line workers (grocery, supply, health care etc). If they had said everyone wear masks from the beginning w/out the ability to mass produce them here situation would be worse!

Also as we learn more about the virus and how to protect recommendations change. No one is making these recommendations out of malice. Am guessing without masks more people likely stayed home as well.

I understand and agree with the need to prioritize our front-line workers. That's a no-brainer. The point here is the CDC+Surg Gen+others were willfully misleading the public ("They are NOT effective...") about efficacy of masks to try and...

Not sure it’s willfully misleading. Guidelines were for droplet precaution based on available data at the time. Also have to consider people not using correctly (taking off and contaminating hands etc). Seems more evidence now suggests could be helpful

Thanks, Maureen. I appreciate your point. The Surgeon General is *still* pushing that narrative. This post is from less than 24 hours ago.https://twitter.com/Surgeon_General/status/1244744427735781377 …

Agree with @Seattle2019nCov. There is new, updated info and they're still pushing this narrative. We can tell the truth:
1. Wearing masks will better protect everyone
2. We must prioritize frontline workers get these masks first since they're in short supply.
