Dr. Genevieve Guenther Retweeted Greenpeace UK

Let's be clear: climate breakdown has begun, so outright denial is no longer tenable as a political strategy. Expanding oil production by a projected 20% in the next decades while making operations "carbon neutral" is what BP is doing instead. 1/nhttps://twitter.com/GreenpeaceUK/status/1227637730584166400 …

How do BP get to 'net zero' without: - Stopping drilling for NEW oil and gas - Reducing the oil and gas from their existing oil and gas wells These are the questions @BP_plc's Bernard Looney brushed over today. #ClimateEmergency pic.twitter.com/sYaF7J4Vho

Likewise, BP's promise to support a carbon price is belied by the money they pour into campaigns through surrogates to block the passage of carbon-pricing bills, as they did in WA state in 2017 and 2018. 2/n

I worked on @yeson1631 and I'm still boiling about the millions BP spent to stop it/us.https://twitter.com/emahlee/status/1162726230916943874 …

What 1631 *would* have done, which is what BP was ultimately most scared of, is inspire similar legislation around the country that would have been harder and harder to fight. No wonder that outspent us almost 2:1.
