Every single US evening I hop on Twitter and see Australian residents waking up and despairing over the Government's lack of response to the bushfires :(

I think the difference is that the illusion that things are normal is no longer possible in Australia. We pretend everything is fine as parts of the US burn, but this is on an entirely different scale threatening almost all .au's population.https://twitter.com/timrayner01/status/1211830888004116480 …

What kind of leader could possibly sit back and pretend this is normal, and not pull out every stop, mobilise every resources, do everything in their power to ensure it doesn't get worse ... and worse ... and worse? This is why I'm likely to cast my lot in with Australia, Department of Home Affairs willing. I can see how Trump gets a 2020 and a 2024, because endangering lives of the marginalized benefits him. But the current .au Government can't last, having endangered all Australians.

Sadly, I’m not sure about that. I spoke with an Australian friend last night who was trying to figure out evacuating or not from their holiday spot but friends they were with wanted to stay, didn’t have same sense of alarm. People are in denial — seems to be a coping mechanism.
