#ClimateTwitter, @AyadeLeon & I were talking about this thread, specifically what makes it possible for people to shift into climate activism. Aya had the brilliant idea to crowd source this by sharing personal stories. I'm excited what we can all learn from each other. THREADhttps://twitter.com/emahlee/status/1210384302506012672 …

I've been thinking a lot about @MaryHeglar's thread. I agree with her. And... When people ask climate activists, "What gives you hope" I think they may actually be asking, "What makes it possible for you to do what you do? And can I have some of that?" 2. Before I shifted into climate activism, I had much of the same terrifying and heartbreaking info about climate that I have now. I just wasn't able to face it or act on it. In other words, I was in the exact place many of my friends and family are in right now.

      3. It took a supportive community of committed, brave risk-takers (@AMZNforClimate) where emotions were welcome, and doing something very public and very scary for me to face the climate crisis in the way that felt aligned with my own integrity and with, um, reality.

      4. I have a hunch that having community is key for most people being able to act on climate. Climate is so big and so scary that it can feel unbearable and not possible if we think/feel like we're alone (even if we aren't).

A discovery in working with 120+ interns, mostly new to the stark info: pairs help. Learning about it in sync with a friend is better than alone. Also considered isolation as a factor when doing a focus group at Yale. Non-env studies majors max out.pic.twitter.com/2GbP2TJfQT

What do you mean by the non-environmental studies majors maxing out? What was the question for the graph above?

The question was: how do you feel about climate change? @archiekinnane can make that more accurate. We'll also share a longer report on this project soon. #PlayEnergetic has absorbed much of our content output but there's a lot of research left to share from speaking w/students.

Re: non-env. studies students - if you're not in a major that compels you to read about climate change, it's easy (or necessary) to wall it off. Also, in discussions on a campus, where people are learning silo'd topics, you can deflect questions about it by not being 'an expert.'
