But you can understand from Dave’s thread why people would be understandably upset, yes? I do think the journalist made an error by not reporting Victor’s ties with fossil fuel funding.

Victor’s research received $7.5 million from BP, he is currently a witness for Trump opposing @youthgov’s climate lawsuits, and he wrote about how we shouldn’t blame fossil fuel companies for climate change. I know you don’t think that’s relevant but I respectfully disagree.

I don’t disagree with that. But I still think the public should have the right to know about his industry ties. Let them get all the facts and then decide.

Billionaire CEOs can have terrible, harmful business practices, and also donate to good causes. Are the donations themselves “bad”? No...But context is needed for people to understand the whole story and why such a donation might even be made.

I do think there is space for context. I’ve learned a lot from reading the various discussions about flying. I think we should be having those conversations. I also don’t think that people should be judged. But I think it’s important to talk about these things.

What I personally find difficult and an working thru is that we are in a climate emergency. However, almost no one around us - including ourselves at times! - acts as if that were true. Judgment isn’t useful. But questioning my own way of being in the world is definitely useful.

      1) The effects are already devastating visible, just not to the US and some other Western nations. 2) We already know know what we need to do - drastically cut emissions. We don't need to innovate to do that (though I agree we will need innovations in tech as well).
