My goal is to get into action! How about each participant having their own Energy/Carbon #WardleyMaps at the end of the day? From theory to practice. Sometimes you need to see how you can make a difference in behavior every day. Yes, it is a first step. @swardley #workingforfurture

In terms of what techies can do, there is a huge change we can make straight away. If we host on AWS, ask for renewably powered infrastructure. @adrianco said it himself in the conference: it will move them (and it's the only thing that will)

He didn't just say this, he literally spelled it out in on a HUGE FREAKING SCREEN. There are so many smart people who spend tens of thousands with AWS as customers, know the science, and could easily do this basic thing for new projects.pic.twitter.com/Kfkh39mkpP

if you want to influence AWS, get our customers to move capacity to green regions

This sounds good but look deeper: the subtext is that their commitment to using zero carbon sources is dependent on customer demand. To our market besotted minds that seems reasonable but the velocity of the problem is far greater than this.

Also: although we should, of course, encourage customers to use zero carbon regions, we must keep in mind that, simultaneously, Amazon is helping hydrocarbon firms "accelerate [...]to optimize production and profitability..." thus feeding the problem

Amazon is knowingly accelerating the climate crisis by doing this. Why does Amazon think ahead and *anticipate* custom needs about virtually everything else but climate change? It will come back to hurt us 👇https://twitter.com/emahlee/status/1119687625172848640?s=21 …

What if there were a 20 point shift in public opinion on the climate issue? How would that effect Amazon's brand given it's inaction on climate and partnerships with fossil fuel companies? 18/

Markets and politics can happen on a bigger, faster scale than transition can keep up with if a company is behind. For instance, big solar installations shipping from China can take 4 months. Other expenses that don't get cheaper: the cost to buy expertise. 21/
