I think power and positionality are key here. Yes, many people are having this kind of conversation, brought on by environmental despair. Let’s surface that.

What is the choice for me as a public scholar on climate change? This becomes a harder position to square. Why? Bc I know that my words about this crisis bear a specific kind of weight in the culture, and I must be responsible for the impact, not intent, of my words.

they're feeling scared, and unsure. I think it's good to voice these fears and uncertainties. It doesn't mean we don't also put out visions for the future we want. But we need spaces to raise these fears and heartbreaks. I do think much of the narrative around climate change 4/

must be utterly terrifying and awful for young people to hear. And I don't have an answer for that. I don't think we want to lie to them, but I also think it's too much for such young humans to bear. /end

Yes agreed! It is important to share our fears and in concert to keep pushing back on the anti-birth narrative. Even more we need to share our positive visions for the future. And yes, she was careful in her wording. I thank her for that and do agree with her >90% of the time.
