Quick word of advice to all those who share my concern about the climate situation. Greta T is incredibly important and impressive, but her main contribution is to keep pointing at the science. Make sure you are doing the same. It is not about her, as she keeps reminding us.

She’s also good at getting people to *feel* and then ACT out of their moral responsibility. Someone just DM’ed me: “Her fury is really effecting”. It certainly was for me. I sent a version of this thread internally at Amazon, which was terrifying.https://twitter.com/emahlee/status/1074453652327124993?s=21 …

Emily Cunningham @emahleeI've cried almost every time I've watched this incredible truth-to-power speech by@GretaThunberg at the U.N. plenary in Katowice, Poland a few days ago. The science has been known for 30 years. And here is where we are. Yes, we absolutely need to unite behind the science. We also need to *move* people’. We need courage in these times. And her courage is contagious. “Courage calls to courage everywhere.”

I agree with all this, and I'm not saying ignore her. She is a galvanising force, but when the denialists criticise her, I find it useful to steer them onto the science as quickly as possible...1/2

...although ultimately there are people who are never going to be persuaded, and we shouldn't waste too much energy on them. You can't reason someone out of a position they weren't reasoned into in the first place. 2/2

Exactly. I think the best way to reach people is with our humanity, with our empathy and love and sense of what is right. If we can make real, human connections with people, they'll be more open to trusting us when we say to go look at the science.
