Tip for facilitators, trying to create conditions for connection in meetings -- I facilitated a really nice meeting yesterday and one reason it was so good, I think, was that for our opening round I pulled these cards off my shelf. https://revealedpresence.com/inspirational-photo-cards/ …pic.twitter.com/6tUNKvX7Es

Each card has a photo and a question. You can use them in a lot of ways. Yesterday we each (about 20 people) picked a card, thought about it for a moment and then spoke for a couple minutes about what it brought up.

This was a group that was very familiar with each other, but in the meeting evaluation at the end, people said they felt more connected and like they'd seen new or different aspects of each other.

I think it is the combination of the interesting quirky photos, and the questions. Like tarot or I Ching or other ways of accessing a deeper or intuitive layer. (...I sometimes pull a card when I'm stuck or trying to access my intuition, or as a prompt for journaling).

The deck is really sturdy and nice, but it might feel expensive - (there was a lot of labor in the one woman shop that created it). I think you could build something similar collecting photos or cut up magazines and adding questions over time.

I'm always looking for new ways to bring groups together - do you have an favorite tools or new experiments?

Karaoke. And I'm not kidding. Really helps people show themselves and bond and laugh. I'm a terrible singer and most of the climate activists I know are too. But it brings us together. It's also a good release! we've done it right after meetings playing YouTube on our phones.

Me: To protect the a livable climate you'll have to do things you've never done before. You'll need bravery and heart and courage. Risk taking. Affection for you fellow climate protectors. @emahlee: Karaoke anyone?

Lol. This sounds like my worse nightmare. Though I can totally see how it would work. Being vulnerable in any climate conversation really helps & speaking as someone who is pure head space most of the time. Karaoke is terrifying.

Those who have been hesitant -- because they are bad singers or shy or both (haha) -- have been pleasantly surprised because of the amount of bad singers singing our hearts out! Plus no one is forced to sing, and we do a log of "everyone (who wants to) sing at the same time"
