I do understand your concerns, I share them and appreciate you saying this. But this year, the focus of Map Camp will be trying to reduce the impact of the conference itself. Next year, we will increase requirements on all sponsors no matter what they are sponsoring.
As you know, we're out of time. We're in a climate emergency. Look at what just happened in the Bahamas with Dorian. The water crisis in Chennai. We need climate leadership now. Well, yesterday. Not "next year." Please reconsider.
Personally, I would argue that we've had a climate emergency since 2003. First two years of map camp concentrated on diversity, this year I'm extending that to environment in talks, sessions and sponsor. I will follow a path of bringing people with us and ratcheting demands.
Climate chaos is changing and will change everything. It's effecting everything we care about: health, safety, food scarcity, national security, the economy. It's not about the "environment"– it's everything. And it's killing people *right now,* who are the most vulnerable.
