Emily Cunningham Retweeted Sunrise Movement  🌅

Finally listened to this truly remarkable conversation between @VarshPrakash and @ezraklein. Blown away. It's not as good as everyone's been saying... it's better. Varshini talks strategy, building power, what's at stake in ways that are incredibly thoughtful and visionary. 1/https://twitter.com/sunrisemvmt/status/1155817559951908864 …

“This is one of those episodes I want to put the hard sell on. It’s one of the most important conversations I’ve had on the show... It left me feeling better about the world rather than worse — that was shocking.”

.@VarshPrakash centers on justice & the importance in communicating climate policy *not* about what's being taken away, but what we're GAINING. If transforming our society is what's required to address the climate crisis (it is), how can we not talk about jobs & healthcare? 2/

Another thing I loved about @VarshPrakash and @ezraklein's conversation was how organizing transforms you as a person in incredibly powerful ways. YES. Personally, I feel that organizing helps me grow into myself. It expands my heart, and what I feel like I'm/we're capable of. 3/

One of my favorite parts of @VarshPrakash's interview was the discussion of spirituality, emotion, and meaning. Why singing is so important for @sunrisemvmt. Discussing texts like the Tao Te Ching as a source of inspiration but also wisdom for organizing. 4/

"What does it mean to be a good leader? "Do I want to be the kind of leader that can sit through the fire and emerge as loving and caring as they can be? And relentlessly seeking health and joy right now. Not 30 years in the future, but right now" ~ .@VarshPrakash 6/

Yes! Wisdom from the Tao Te Ching. Mindfulness as an organizer helps us build successful movements. "It's put me on a path of mediation and mindfulness, not just 10 minutes a day, but working really hard to permeate into every part of my existence." ~@VarshPrakash 7/
