Reading this my first thought was, oh, this is like the Soviet Union. And then, that makes sense, since the soviet union was one giant labor camp.pic.twitter.com/94B2mikvLR

Its weird to imagine slavery starting. Like it just seems like this default part of the American inheritance. But like no, someone had to begin it. To conceive it. Plan it. Execute it. Iterate. Optimize.https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2019/08/14/magazine/slavery-capitalism.html …

I was learning some javascript and react code over the weekend and i feel like i can kind of understand how people could create a genocide machine just by writing facebook code. When everything is so abstracted, it doesnt mean anything.

“Never allow any slave to lock or unlock any door.” What does it mean? Nothing. Its just code. Just code.

Witnessing the horrors of slavery drilled into poor white workers that things could be worse. American freedom became broadly defined as the opposite of bondage. It was a freedom that understood what it was against but not what it was for; a malnourished and mean kind of freedom.

Thinkin abt how modern work culture is inherited from plantation management as i listen to the Energy Gang podcast. The manufacturing supply chain for the Vineyard Wind project Trump shut down comes from Louisiana. The fossil fuel economy will be history’s next slave trade.

Car companies are already winding down r&d into internal combustion engine tech but oil is pretending the trade will go on forever.https://www.reuters.com/article/us-autoshow-detroit-electric/global-carmakers-to-invest-at-least-90-billion-in-electric-vehicles-idUSKBN1F42NW …

1/ Electricity is the new oil. China just killed the future of the internal combustion engine. And climate action (energy transition) is neither scary nor costly to the economy, but will pay for itself over twenty years. That's why I've written Oil Fall. https://gum.co/OilFall

Carbon is the new slave trade. A legacy paradigm incompatible with humanity’s future, whose inevitable decline entrenched interests will do everything they can to thwart, but end it will.
