Today is the 50th anniversary of Woodstock. It’s hard to hear the Boomer nostalgia for that moment, in such stark contrast to the realities of world they’re handing down to us.

So much to say... for me, it's painful to see the lack of empathy Boomers are showing in this thread re how our gen and younger are feeling about the state of the world. I'm also thankful for the many things Boomers fought for and won. 1/n

(Sunrise studied and learned from mass movements of the Boomers.) For me it's helpful to zoom out and look at the *system* (based on exploitation, racism, sexism, classism, greed, etc) as the true culprit.

I don't think there was anything uniquely special about the Boomer gen that allowed them to accomplish what they did. Same for millennials and Gen Z. They did and now we do find ourselves in a situation where we have to ACT.

Apologies are still helpful, even if it's a systemic issue. I'm a climate activist, & I know I'll be apologizing for where I and my gen fail. I wish Boomers wouldn't take this criticism so personally, apologize, and then say, "I'm here with you. To learn & share. Let's do this."

I wonder if some of the Boomers' defensiveness on this thread is partly due to agism they've faced. I see agism on their part toward younger people. But on the other hand, I see our gen also dismissing them, and what they've learned and done.

I think GenX and millennials want a chance to lead and suggestions of ageism can be a convenient way to shut that conversation down (not that it isn't sometimes a real issue).

We need to hold everything in our minds. No oppression is ok. There's room for everyone to lead. That is, for everyone to play a very active role in moving things forward. Leading could mean backing the leadership of people who are much younger or from other marginalized groups.
