Honestly I think there is space for dialogue between the DiCaprio creative team and other leaders in this space. These culture brokers have a role to play in leading in public, and that can mean apologizing and redressing harm.
I agree. I mean, how many times have I messed up? Have each of us? The other day I caught myself white-splaining. Said just that, and apologized. We're living, breathing, drowning in this racist society. The key (maybe?) is being committed to humbly learning and changing.
I agree with those criticisms. I was referring to modeling a shift from making films for pure entertainment toward ones that reflect the existential urgency of our time, but I’m glad you’re highlighting the dangers of storytelling that comes only from privileged perspectives.
