Any people of color in #IceOnFire? Any women? Trailer doesn’t show even one. When we hear a narrow subset of voices, it’s not just a matter of bias. It’s a matter of missing out on vital ideas and insights to lead us away from the brink. 🤷🏽‍♀️🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️https://twitter.com/LeoDiCaprio/status/1131198029149556739 …

The doc is primarily made up of female scientists, actually.

re: “primarily” – actually actually, that’s not correct. While there are amazing women in the film, male voices outnumber them more than 2:1. What did you think about representation of voices of color? (There’s 1.) Lots good about the film. But this is a real weakness.

Climate change has nothing to do with race or gender. The real ‘weakness’ is taking the documentary personally.

Tyler, I'd invite you to update your understanding. Climate change has many many things to do with race and gender. Here's a starter reading list just on gender:https://www.yaleclimateconnections.org/2019/03/a-reading-list-on-women-and-climate-change/ …

From your timeline I can see you care about the climate crisis. Understanding how climate change is intimately connected to racism and sexism is key to understanding the crisis itself. You'll be much more effective to have this understanding. And we want you with us.

“If we really care about the climate crisis, it's critical that we listen to the voices on the margins, the communities on the frontlines. Why? Because the people closest to the pain can always be trusted to be closest to the solution." ~@MaryHeglar Also:https://twitter.com/bethsawin/status/1113480864250433536 …

That's why the advice to center the leadership of marginalized groups in our movements is good #systemsthinking to my mind. Anomalies are more pervasive if you are part of a marginalized group and people who experience anomalies see more than others can.
