This thread breaks down the nuance of why Rep. Omar's comments matter, even though I believe her intentions were good. I was gratified to see that Rep. Omar heard the legitimate concerns and took them to heart. The illegitimate pile-on is disgusting, and Rep. Omar deserves betterhttps://twitter.com/1littleBIGMOUTH/status/1095281327258193920 …
I'm seeing a lot of talk about Omar's intentions. On the one hand, yes, it's great that she (as far as I can tell) didn't intend to cause harm. But just like when a white person is unintentionally racist, the intention doesn't matter. The impact does. So glad she apologized.

That is why I wrote she needs to get very clear about antisemitism if she is going to critisize Israel or AIPAC. Why I wrote this entire thread.

Yes, I agree with both of you. I should probably also said, "So glad
@1littleBIGMOUTH wrote this thread explaining why the impact is so important to understand."

When I say "impact > intent," I'm talking about those who whine "but I didn't MEAN to hurt anyone," while refusing to apologize. When someone hears criticism, responds thoughtfully & apologizes, that allows good intentions to show themselves. You don't know what you don't know.
