In other words, not doing the right thing, not taking brave stands on climate change would cost me a large chunk of myself, of my humanity. Something I'm not willing to swallow, as I'm also not willing to watch silently as our beautiful world is burned down.

But do I think I'm fighting just to fight and what I do is an inconsequential lost cause even if it might be the right, moral thing? Hell no! I absolutely think what I (and others) do makes a difference, even if I'll never know the impact it had.

I will continue to be heartbroken daily over what has already been lost and will be lost, but I know too, that so much MORE can be lost if people like you and me and a growing number of countless others don't fight.

And I think we'll be much more effective fighters if we go in thinking we can still win important battles that matter immensely, while at the same time remembering that so much has already been lost. This position, I think, is both true & can inspire. End. Thanks for listening.

I think we may be violently agreeing, which I appreciate.

Fear is an emotion that needs to be handled both delicately and wisely. Organizing people on the basis of this kind of painful emotion, may backfire, and I don't think it's a good strategy for sustained efforts. Possibly though as a very near-term tactic.

But you call out something important: loss aversion. "In cognitive psychology and decision theory, loss aversion refers to people's tendency to prefer avoiding losses to acquiring equivalent gains: it is better to not lose $5 than to find $5." https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Loss_aversion …
