Just to remind you that DKs are meant to be undead killing machines with a inate need for violence in order to avoid complete madness. I get that not everyone wants to/is able to RP a doom and gloom character, but the amount of "Happy happy I'm so aliveeee" DKs just confuses me.

Yeah that makes sense in my opinion. Retaining some sense of good and evil, but still having that urge for violence they need to feed. Can be a great source for character stories too!
