How about a system of tunnels specifically for EVs (designed to trigger autonomous driving)? Would be like a personal subway car.

Yes, but many prefer their own cars to mass transit and will continue driving them even if mass transit improved.

Also, that thinking isn't fully productive. Mass transit exists now & there are still traffic issues w/in cities.

Maybe in my children's lifetime, there'll be city tunnels take cars from point A to point C26 like pneumatic tubes.
