@UsAndRufus: Cars maintain & sustain the air column that moves with them. Rail gun acceleration would be 0 to 600mph @ 1 gravity for 2 miles -

@Julian_A_Cox: Air pressure gradients are exponential. Make the pressure between car & tube wall is high enough to offset forces.@elonmusk -
