So what makes it different from any other day of the year?

It doesn't qualify for holiday pay if worked, nor does it count towards a floating holiday if worked. So while some can choose to take the day off and not be punished (meaning its excused) it's not really treated as a holiday. You almost did a good thing, Elon.
