Breaking news: Non-Tesla car catches fire in China. According to Chinese media, a BMW523 bursts into flames
on its own today on a local freeway in Hangzhou. Can this video go viral? Of course not because it’s not a Tesla. Cars catch fire in China everyday.

From 2003-07, ~3T miles/yr were driven in the US, w/ 287K vehicle fires/yr -> ~96 fires per billion miles/yr. Teslas have driven 10B miles, so you'd expect ~960 Tesla fires to have occurred. Actual incidence is *FAR* lower, <20 to my knowledge, or 2/Bn miles/yr, 1/48th of ICE.

I think 14 tesla car fires have occurred so far since 2012.

That's around 1 fire per 100,000 ICE cars. Now do Tesla.

Tesla's fire mortality rate is at least 4x that of the average car.
