Amazing space progress by China. This year they did more orbital launches than the USA for the first time.https://twitter.com/sciam/status/1076888923790553088 …

Yes, they've done well by the numbers - but SpaceX has conducted more US launches than anyone else (in a competitive market). And unlike the Chinese, you're returning boosters for reuse. Chinese boosters tend to land on Mr. Ling's garage roof. 😱https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rG79Y1XViIk …

But not yet. We're talking about 2018. In fact, per the whole "Chinese winning" element, it's only about quantity - and it's quantity over quality. Very impressive year for China, but I'd like someone to work out upmass/orbits/flagship missions. Then tell me if China won. 😉pic.twitter.com/GEUVStS9iS

All I have handy is total upmass by country of satellite *owner* (rather than LV provider). That is 123t USA, 68t Russia, 56t China, 130t other. By sat manufacturer it's 135t USA 55t China roughly. So yes, I think it's clear US beats China in (payload mass, wet at launch)

Nevertheless in terms of reliable access to orbit I think the launch rate is important. China has succeeded the USSR as the bulk source of chucking things upward which has implication for LV and engine reliability/maturity

I think Jonathan is not "jealous" at all, just offering different ways to read the numbers. He is right, and nobody will say China is not a very strong space country right now.

Never trust China. They steal our technology and information. They want to take us over. Remember when they killed thousands of protesters in Tiananmen Sqare? The protesters just wanted freedom. They’re just buying time until Trump leaves office. They’re sneaky communist.

Oh yes, but the US is known for being the bastion of progress. What with still using corn syrup, and burning more fossil fuels every day while deregulating bussinesses so they can do it even worse. Destroying the planet, now thats what I call progress.

Drivel and talking points. US was on par with the Evil Empire and China when it came to pollution before former collapsed and the latter was still just starting industrial activity. What I said not only relates to technology (and it's uses) but also the socio-political culture.
