And wealth inequality.

There is considerable confusion between wealth as consumption & wealth as labor allocation. By latter measure, anyone in govt whose budget exceeds $1B is a billionaire. Government is the largest corporation.
-
Except that government is ostensibly intended to serve the public, and does not need have a fiduciary duty to generate "profit" for a small number of people. The profit motive is really great for some things, and really, really awful/counterproductive for other things.

wake me when you and the rest of the billionaires save lives and eradicate world hunger. til then, all you do is preach and whine.
-
The lives that billionaires like Elon Musk will save due to less pollutants and greenhouse gasses in our atmosphere should do it. Although don’t expect good news to be above the fold news.
-
Looks like you exited the freeway at Whataboutism Ave. The Point was a bit further ahead. But wait, you shouldn't even be driving, you're Drunk Taff.
-
So billionaires like
@BillGates and@JeffBezos for example, have done nothing to contribute to the betterment of mankind? Tell me what the hell you've done. Wake us all up when you've contributed as much as the them. -
Gungun, both of those men have gotten rich off my money. So anything great they've done, I helped them. Cool, huh?
-
Well
@BillGates and@JeffBezos run, or have ran, companies. Those companies will gladly take your money for the products that they sell. No one forced you to buy a Microsoft product or anything off Amazon. -
Psssst, guess how many Amazon employees are on food stampspic.twitter.com/WMRf8rUI0M

But monopolies are an inherent result of capitalism. Even Adam Smith said so. Don't buy this neoliberal libertarian hype.
#ElonMusk -
that's why we (the US) have had regulations in place to prevent monopolies since the early 20th century. Socialism promotes state ownership of industries, ie a monopoly of the government. No monopolies = no socialism.
-
Google? Amazon? How's that working out for ya?
-
There’s actually a really interesting conversation about monopolies in the book ‘zero to one’, where Thiel addresses the difference between government enforced monopolies and monopolies that emerge naturally in the market.
-
So the argument that government is meant to protect the consumer from monopolies is a catch-22 in that they essentially enshrine monopolies just the same.
-
Marx points out that monopolies are the natural end result of capitalism
-
Show me one monopoly that doesn’t use the government to squash competition.
-
Um, that's the point, corporate power and monopolies give these corporations political power to manipulate government for private gain. That's not an argument vs government, it's about corporate power over government.
