Granted, they also say they “remain determined to bring the pandmeic under control as soon as possible” listing support for the GHS conclusions + the @ACTAccelerator but then the urgency drops off a cliff as they “acknowledge” @KGeorgieva’s taskforce+ welcome tbe HLIP report../3

...but (sigh) we need ACTION RIGHT NOW, promises to back the Task Force financially to do *whatever it takes* to speed up the end of the acute phase of this pandemic and vaccinate the world providing tests treatments+ PPE a’s part of that strategy, so where is that? /4

While there is rightful underscoring of the international tax agreements as (potentially) “historic”, we were looking to this set of influential ministers to take more action to tackle the pandemic, eg by taking immediate action on High Level panel recs on finance /5

There is a mention of the Sustainable Finance Working Group Synthesis Report and a multi-year G20 Roadmap on sustainable finance “initially focused on climate”..so where’s the multi-month G20 Roadmap on financing THIS pandemic??? /6

If Fin Mins don’t believe that it’s their job to make sure the world has the resources to tackle this pandemic in all our names, then whose is it? The @IMFNews @wto @WHO @WorldBank Task Force to vaccinate the world becomes more important than ever.../7

..esp. given the new general allocation of $650bn in SDRS; G20 called on IMF to “quickly present actionable options for countries to voluntarily channel a share their allocated SDRs to help vulnerable countries finance...sust. economic recoveries+health related expenditure” /8

There are other points of interest in the communiqué on debt, launch of an independent review of capital adequacy f/works+IDA replenishment,but it’s hard to read about commitment to “achieving the SDGs” as well as the G20’s commitment to “preserving financial stability” when../10

..the sheer urgency needed to finance the gaping holes in the global response to the pandemic is utterly lacking. A fear some have is that global leaders point to @ACTAccelerator and say “they’re sorting it” and then “plus we already gave money” - points which ignore that.. /11

...@ACTAccelerator is not yet fully funded+even if it *was*, the current plan has it reaching 27% of ppl in LMICs by end 2021+there are significant supply problems we wanted the G20 to take on by committing to dose sharing, increasing supply+doing whatever it takes to succeed./12

..I keep mentioning @KGeorgieva - she has said “vaccine policy IS economic policy” This wknd the @g20org had the chance to show they understood this by dedicating their leadership, their financing + their significant convening power to take global action against COVID-19.../13
