One interesting thing about any large scale (millions in consulting costs) transformations is that they will almost all definitely be spun as success stories no matter the outcome. Other wise some exec somewhere would loose their job or a board of directors look foolish.

"Every manager supposes that he is doing his best. He is, and this is the problem. His or her best is embedded in the present system of management which cases huge loss, of unknowable magnitude." -W. Edwards Deming

Every Senior Engineer or above should also be able to provide a mentee as a reference. It's one thing if you did your job for your boss, it's another thing to help create a better engineer. Thoughts?

Agile has nothing at all to do with Sprints, backlogs, fixed roles, meetings, stories, etc. Don't confuse tools (some useful, some not, all contextual) with the thing itself.

I’m biased sitting here bare-assed on the metal but adding more computers to manage the computers already in the computer is not a winning strategy. It’s like a nesting doll where all the infinitely smaller dolls are made out of shrieking bullshit.

It is a little distressing to realize that on my deathbed I will probably still remember how to set the address, IRQ, DMA etc of a Sound Blaster card.

I had to get a background check for my job, and it turns out the report is a 300+ page pdf of every single tweet I’ve ever liked with the work “fuck” in it. Enjoy your dystopian bs! *waves*

(Note that I'm not suggesting measuring output or "velocity"—creating large volumes garbage benefits nobody.) "Working software is the primary measure of progress." However, defining "working" can be tricky. 3/4

I don’t usually like to brag, but I’m going to make an exception. I stepped away from my computer after not solving a bug because it’d been a long day. I actually walked away and left it sitting there for tomorrow. This is a top 3 personal accomplishment of the month.

I know it sounds so reasonable and people spend so much time on it, but it just doesn’t actually work very well. You aren’t going to estimate your way to predictability. People sure have tried hard, with the best intentions, and I’m not making fun of anyone here.
