    On the 10th anniversary of the Syrian revolution, a MUST-READ 🧵from my friend .

    As you reflect on Syria's 10-year mark, avoid calling it "anniversary of the Syrian war". This framing is simplistic, offensive and disregards the hundreds that have given their lives to the peaceful uprising that sparked it all. Here is why this framing is inaccurate & insulting

    This thread is great and really highlights the need to see past "great wo/man" history to see the work of the larger whole

    This is great for folks who still don't know the history of Mrs. Parks or the Montgomery Bus Boycott. But the real history of the boycott, as a decade-long mvmt for Black women's bodily autonomy, is better than the fairy tale & this essay

    If people you interact with live or work on the hill or other parts of the city that were potential targets, they likely had a rough week. When there is a national event like this it can be hard to remember that we don't all experience it the same, even if we are all hurting.

    For people who don't live in D.C., it's easy to forget that Capitol Hill isn't just a place where members of Congress work. It's where thousands of us — including kids and dogs — live, work and play.

    And to underscore just how what happened impacts local DC residents. KIPP DC and Friendship -- city's largest charter networks that serves 11k students, mostly from low-income families -- are cancelling on-site meal distributions b/c they feel "staying home is the safest thing."
