I think this is a perfect example of background lobbyists using "gender ideology" as a wedge issue. This blows a hole in Gillick competence which provides healthcare consent for young people. Sexual and reproductive health services will be next if this goes through. Bet you £50.

What "irreversible decisions" are young people making before they're 18 anyway???
-
Well for one thing they're being allowed sign up for tens of thousands of pounds in debt for third level education. But I guess she's not too worried about that since it was her party's policy.

this is absolutely terrifying and shows no understanding of how medical consent for children actually works for *any* condition currently under UK law and practice
-
Yep, it basically blows a hole in gillick competence.

Strictly speaking imo that shouldn't impact puberty blockade (fully reversible) but it should be and can be firmly legally challenged all the same, to protect 16 year olds access to hormones on professional judgements. It is likely going to increase uncertainty as Section 28 did.
-
They frame puberty blockers as permanent in several ways. Whether they are isn't do much the point. They have every intent of leveraging their narratives to take away access to puberty blockers.

Blo*dy disgusting! D'yer think the govt is going out of its way to prove it doesn't give a
about protected characteristic groups ?
First we had trans & NB people, then Covid-19 came along & they added certain age groups, disabled people & certain faith groups.
Who's next?
-
The tories haven't given a sole shite about disabled people for a very very long time and it is not a "and now disabled people" thing, thanks.
