It’s structure is that of a slasher horror (see: Halloween) but in space. Focus on tension rather than spectacle. Fighting back against the enemy is a desperate final act after a film of fleeing. The jump scares.

Counterargument: all films set in space have a vein of horror due to the fragile separation of humans from the cold, unforgiving and infinite void.

Why would Alien *not* be a horror film but The Thing - which also features an alien, and is set in almost equally inhospitable environment, but in Earth - be horror?
