I don’t think there’s ever been any adults. The whole thing is a mess. Conspiracy theories are weirdly comforting- the idea that someone is in charge and has a plan, even if it’s evil.

I totally agree with this. The works is scary, random, vast. Conspiracy makes it seem smaller, calculated, contained. Safer.

It really, really feels like that. Everything that happens, I think "is THIS going to be enough this time?" but apparently, it never is, even when the very first thing was bad enough, it doesn't seem to warrant any kind of stepping in, just "discussion" or "investigation"

This has been my biggest realisation growing up. That adults do not inherently understand things, no matter how they act. Everyone is just scraping their way through life, acting like they did as kids, hoping not to be found out.
