Every kid in NYC suffers a loss of friends and contacts every time they move from one level of education to another. As a result they are unable to develop and maintain the kind of long-term friendships that build character and make life meaningful. But who cares, right?
It seems that HS screens will be a school-based decision; assuming many schools will find the data to screen lacking (6th grade tests) and move away from screens anyway
Please stop calling it a “random lottery” that is the vocabulary and framing of the status quo. These are “student-centered” admissions where students/ families still have choice. Moves from schools choosing kids to kids choosing schools...they way it should be for 10-year olds!
