This is one of the biggest education stories no one is talking about: "As more public schools are moving to remote learning, child care programs and after-school providers in major cities are taking in more children of families who cannot work remotely."https://www.nytimes.com/2020/08/04/parenting/schools-day-care-children-divide.html?action=click&module=Top%20Stories&pgtype=Homepage …

Why hasn't data about attendance and infections among DOE Regional Enrichment Center staff and children been made public? How are infections in children and staff attending the 3000 re-opened child care centers being tracked and reported?

@elizashapiro pls talk to folks at Community Based Organizations about this issue. We have funding to run in public schools from DOE, DYCD and we are licensed by DOHMH. We need to be at the table for these reopening discussions and city agencies need to collaborate.

oh yeah I've talked to folks providing this care and a) it's where a lot of that money for "childcare for essential workers" is going and b) it's upended the kind of care these providers normally give and c) the risk they're taking on themselves is frankly unknowable?

Childcare costs more than college. This is a no-brainer. It begins and ends with profit, consumption culture, and the fact that our government refuses to provide financial assistance to keep its citizens safe amid economic disaster. People are desperate.

Oh gee. Here we go again. Good article. Lame comment. Child care and schools are very different for so many reasons: size, logistics, state/district requirements, etc. Education reporters must dig deeper. Please. These surface level responses are frustrating.

My son who is non-verbal and developmentally delayed with autism has been going 5 days a week to his special needs school since March after his school shut down and they have had 0 issues in the whole learning facility.

Doesn't the data show that young children don't get or spread covid?
