If you're not already part of the Applied Algebraic Topology Research network, you should be! There are some fabulous speakers lined up for this semester, and an increasing library of past talks are available on youtube. Info is here: https://topology.ima.umn.edu/seminars

Today, I'm talking about this paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1902.07190 with Jose Perea and Firas Khasawneh; and a bit on this paper: https://arxiv.org/abs/1910.08506v1 … with

Hidden inside a mess of point-set topology and functional analysis is a very nice idea: that you can easily build representations of persistence diagrams that play nice with stats/ML via template systems.

These come from collections of functions on the upper half plane with nice enough properties. Apply one to all the points in your diagram, sum those all up, rinse and repeat....pic.twitter.com/3cUest3Hx7

The result is super fast to compute, plays nice with infinite diagrams (hello, fractals!), and has a ton of flexibility since the restrictions on the function collection are very reasonable.

Youtube video of the talk will be up eventually. For now, the paper is here: https://arxiv.org/abs/1902.07190 and the code is here:https://github.com/lizliz/teaspoon
