I was looking into how much a fake listing costs — or real one too, I guess — and I love that InsideHigherEd will sell you a 5-pack of diversity credits for two grand.pic.twitter.com/9jz4ItWoT0

I'm so angry for the people that wouldn't have put their heart and soul into those applications and spent months tearing their hair out stressing about them after submitting.
-
It happened to me and I’m sure someone thought it wasn’t totally unethical because I was getting “interview experience.”
-
I was straight up told it was valuable because they gave me interview experience
-
I was literally publishing a thing with a person who was the beneficiary of a fake open search, he talked about it freely, and my adviser still encouraged me to apply for experience, even after getting burned once in the same situation!
-
This is how tenure-stream faculty normalize the violence of the search process.

Hey, at least those poor folks will be saved the heartache of a campus visit-for-show for a job they never had a chance in hell of getting, amirite?
-
I mean, this is getting shared widely which I think is good but ND was already deleting those posts when I found them and they'll prob still go thru with their fake search. Whoop. From the comments, one is a spousal hire and one is an internal promotion.

Needless to say the second guy is also an internal candidate.

Oh yeah. That one, the job description hadn't been deleted and it said "we want to hire so-and-so."
-
thankfully Higher Ed Jobs keeps deleted postings up if you pass a Captcha

It appears that
@NotreDame has not changed since the early '90s. I and another woman interviewed for a position that had been "fixed" for a male colleague. Several people were angry about it and told me the details at the next APSA meeting.#PoliSciTwitter
