    Holland was the same. My Protestant oma joined the Dutch resistance, married my Jewish Opa, and was disowned by her family for it. She risked her life every day smuggling people, intel, & supplies. Today, we include everyone she helped save from the camps in our extended family.

    What if instead of militarized police forces the State spent that money, or 1/10 of that money, on squads of midwives, parental assistance and counseling, high-quality child care, big sibling and mentoring programs, afterschool activities, nature camps and green spaces?
