    Actually, this might be more fun: S&S Interactive published a hybrid print/CD-ROM version of The Joy of Cooking in 1998.

    Fun research find of the day, CD-ROM travel guides with a "print counterpart" were a thing for a brief period of time. Bad sales forced publishers to discontinue most of them. Except, some very early versions of "maps" sold about 1 million in 1996.

    Ultimately, travel guide publishers partnered and licensed their content to "interactive mapping websites" like MapQuest, HotWired, Travelocity. Handhelds (PDAs), GPSs, and ultimately, smartphones, would change the media landscape again for travel guide publishers.

    Most of the travel guide CD-ROM contents ended up going on the internet, for no immediate cost. And publishing the guides' content online led to doubling and tripling the sales of the print books.
