we get that, but a lot of us are tired of it beibg used in a derogatory way towards us so we are reclaiming it and embracing it and taking the power out of the word. just like the whole lgbtq+ community already has with queer!

I just meant that a lot of people haven't seen that girl's tweet, so they don't know what Elijah is referencing. Asking "Why don't people understand a thing they have probably never seen?" doesn't make a ton of sense, is all.

that's fair. i just assume elijah's confusion is that his tweet was satire targeted at the gay community and then straight people found his tweet and are outraged but didn't see hers.. which says a little bit about how "woke" they are.

That's a really great point and is a common way that internet spaces break down and build outrage. What feels like in-group conversation can be brought out-of-group. I tend to deal with misunderstandings by deleting tweets so that the misunderstanding stops.

Each creator gets to decide for themselves how they handle that. But I don't think we can say that an ally isn't an ally because they didn't see all the same tweets we saw.

again that's super fair, i just think all of this boils down outrage culture and people not double checking if something they found offensive is satire (whether its good or bad) or something that is genuinely ignorant and should be called out.

but then again satire can always still be perceived as ignorant to people depending on how controversial it is.
