This is a great example of why there should be some kind of Api for publicly available numbers

There are many APIs for publicly-available numbers! This number unfortunately is only available in a spreadsheet that a small team at the SF Fed updates occasionally.

Agreed, just noting that I do think there is an impressive amount of federal data that is publicly available. data.gov
