    I’m seeing lots of wishful thinking about this meeting. There’s no political breakthrough here. It’s high level security coordination between the ruler of the West Bank and his Palestinian counterpart.

    This evening I met with PA President, Mahmoud Abbas. We discussed the implementation of economic and civilian measures, and emphasized the importance of deepening security coordination and preventing terror and violence - for the well-being of both Israelis and Palestinians.

    Settler violence, growing racism in Israel, the permanent disempowerment of the Palestinians of E. Jerusalem & policies chillingly reminiscent of apartheid are not partisan issues. Increasingly, these are too similar to anti-Semitism. Kindly show me ADL engagement on these.

    Demolitions and displacement continue unabated. But hurray for Israeli Def Min (the literal ruler of the West Bank) meeting with the head of the PA.

    1/2 Yesterday, a 3-story bldg in Al-Issawiya in East Jerusalem was demolished, leaving 23 residents homeless, incl 17 children. Israeli demolitions, now at a 4-year high w/ 867 Pal structures demolished in 2021 alone, have continued unabated in the oPt over the Christmas holidays

    1/ Two years after revelations that the Police planted weapons and raided a Palestinian home in Jerusalem just to film a TV series there - now, it turns out they did the same to a Bedouin family, using a helicopter (!) for a PR campaign.

    A news report showed officers descending from a helicopter as the police commissioner looked on – omitting the fact that police had already found nothing in a raid hours earlier

    Today there is no govt or entity whose responsibility it is to protect Palestinians from Israeli settler and army violence. A colossal failure not just of the “peace process” but of the international community.

    68 Palestinians in Burqa have been injured by Israeli forces, three by live fire, 10 rubber bullets and 55 tear gas, according to Red Cross. Two days ago the IDF sealed off the village so 1000 Israelis could chant revenge slogans in a settlement illegal under Israeli law.

    The West Bank is under a half century of occupation. Just a reminder that when you don’t hear about “clashes” or Palestinian “terror” there is constant, relentless, state violence and injustice. All the time.

    Keep an eye on the northern West Bank tonight. Epicenter is clashes in village of Burqa bw Palestinians & IDF (Palestinian woman killed by settler car yday). Neighboring Palestinian villages trying to get involved. Drive by shooting at IDF regional HQ

    This hasn’t made headlines in Israel

    B’tselem staffer and human rights activist was hit by a sponge bullet shot by Israeli forces at Palestinians in Beita today, while documenting the weekly protest. She is ok. Since May, 8 Palestinians have been killed by live fire protesting the Evyatar settler outpost.
