ALSO. IF YOU SEE ASIANS WEARING FACE MASKS, IT MAY NOT MEAN THEY'RE SICK. IT IS A CONSCIENTIOUS CULTURE. WE WEAR IT AS A PREVENTATIVE FOR OURSELVES TO LIMIT GETTING OR SPREADING ILLNESS. WE DON'T START WEARING NOT AFTER THE FACT. SO DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE WHEN YOU SEE US WEAR IT.😠

Who here realises the ENORMOUS privilege that the use of English as an international science & publishing language conjures on native English speakers in academia?

I want to live in a world where we recognize, name, and appreciate socioemotional factors and how some people are ACTIVELY DISCOURAGED from speaking more than one language.

Ableism is the left’s dirty secret. It should be our mission to tackle ableism. Because ableism is at the heart of fascism. Nearly every major system of oppression relies on the contempt for infirmity and vulnerability in its framework. Genocide is built around ableism.

in light of and ’s recent run ins: you can’t have worker solidarity or class solidarity without including disabled people. it isn’t class solidarity to say minimum wage workers are allowed to discriminate.

If you can show up, show up - but - In case no one has explicitly told you, if you have accessibility issues that limit your ability to engage in protests and marches - you are not cancelled. We understand. Do what you can, where you are, with what you have.

Sometimes when I swear on here I get messages from parents saying their kids follow me on here because they're studying Foreign Soil, and I'm like: Excellent, then they'll already have studied the extensive use of swear words as a literary device to punctuate, emote and empasise.

I can't believe it! A reviewer is asking us to justify why we studied German and Russian! BECAUSE THESE ARE F**KING LANGUAGES. LIKE F**KING ENGLISH. Jesus H. Christ.

OK, outside of everything else, whether you're an academic, cultural critic or medical professional: Don't write books about a population you hate. It's likely not only offensive and journalistically/medically/artistically irresponsible, but also straight up inaccurate if you do.

Like I'm really glad academia is finally starting to accommodate parents, but also I'm getting tired of parenthood being the only thing ever mentioned as a possible barrier to participation.

It's always interesting when nondisabled people discover access needs. See also: having a parents' room but no allocated rest/quiet space for disabled conference attendees.

Sure, but please make sure you also take medically-neccessary diets seriously. Vegan food is not universally accessible.

Making them the standard creates that problem for another group of people who can’t have food stuffs dominant in a vegan/veggie diet like nuts, egg, soy, or high FODMAP foods. Catering should be adapted to equally consider all types of diets so no one feels ‘troublesome’ 😊

Christ imagine if it were veganism becoming fashionable that made people understand that the “accommodations by request only” model was actually problematically discriminatory
