Scientists predict Tangier Island could be uninhabitable within 25 years. This is the story of the people willing to go down with it—and why they've risked it all on Donald Trump to keep them afloat. My cover story for is now live:

This kind of stuff is fascinating: A rescued dolphin spent three weeks in captivity, watching trained dolphins “tail-walk” but never being trained herself. When she was released, she started doing it — and other wild dolphins copied!

“What's been left out, however, is why its people are willing to go down with it—and why they've risked it all on Trump to keep them afloat.” If I were teaching Environmental Politics this semester, I’d assign this piece to my class.

I proofed this story about the climate-denying residents of a small, sinking island off the coast of Maryland. It's such a fun read and, most remarkably, loving of the humanity of the people in it:

this piece is terrific. side note: I've been to Tangier Island, seen the sunrise, eaten crabs, drank lemonade. But now, when I think about it, despite the beauty, I feel a kind of soul-shudder, as though someone walked over my grave.
