My paper tracking 's developing war economy (activities dependent on violence) is now out. I argue that the war economy is not simply a symptom of Libya's interlinked governance, security and economic crises, but also a cause

Stuck in Tunis as my flight is delayed. For once it is not 's fault. I bet that whoever thought of this annoying little scheme figured that s/he wouldn't be able to get away with it for 12 hours plus! Gatwick can cite safety all it likes. It's embarrassing.

This should be of grave concern to both Libyans and international community. No Gov even for purposes of appeasement should be able to authorise 1B LYD in the space of days w/out proper evaluation or spending structure to any region in Libya...

Is this the starting gun for the battle for eastern ? , and maybe even the remnants of likely to eye SDF-held territory. Will PYD/SDF seek a pre-emptive deal with Assad/Russia to salvage something?

In a video filmed in , MOI mentions the problem of weapon proliferation & the need to create incentives for disarmament. Also mentions a disarmament plan based on provision of cash in exchange for returning weapons to the state.

Fascinating. Taking on board all of the criticisms about overlooking Scout and ‘white saviours’, half the problem seems to be the urge to categorise Atticus either as a hero or part of the problem, which misses much of the nuance (and value) of Lee’s writing imo

My 2 cents.. If 2nd referendum is held w/3 ops: 1. Deal negotiated by Gov 2. No deal 3. Remain on same terms Remain to require majority to win If no majority for remain then whichever wins more votes out of deal/no deal wins Only recipe for a clear democratic mandate, imo
