I haven't read anyone explaining how exactly PoS is not inherently centralising as well, with only a different group of hoarders being more directly rewarded than others.

Yep, at the end of the day, block rewards are the source of centralizing influence. Yet to see an economic model that finds a way to address this (save something like Nano, which just decided to remove them entirely and rely on indirect incentives).
