Here's a great idea. Let's take a group of men who feel marginalized by society, then--because a subset of them are toxic and misogynistic--isolate them and treat them as a social disease. That won't make the problem worse at all.

Yeah, their views and expressions of anger/misogyny should not be normalized or allowed. But, many of these men on the alt-right/incel spectrum are open and wanting to be back in the mainstream of society. They need therapy, not further marginalization.
-
Their views and expressions of anger should not be normalized: agreed. Should not be allowed? Completely disagree. Opinions and expressions are free and must remain free.
-
I phrased it poorly. I don't mean they should be fired or arrested. I just meant it shouldn't be normalized or defended when they act in very harmful ways. But, as someone who has felt the same bitterness they have, I can relate. Unfortunately, they blamed all of society.
-
this is stereotyping. incel just means involuntary celibate and is no broader than that, you don't have to be bitter and anti-social to be bad at the dating game
-
I'm bad at the dating game. You don't see me writing manifestos and killing women like Elliot Rodgers. Lots of people have romantic/social struggles. Most people, unlike them, don't project it in violent ways.
-
That's kind of my point. not every incel goes around killing women or writing manifestos. It just means they haven't gotten laid but would like to, that's where the definition of the term stops and goes no further. you're thinking of unhinged misogynists

If only some big tech company would come up with a way to use tech to let people sign up to meet potentially compatible romantic partners.

If I understand your insidious suggestion, you think people should be fired based on their private lives, sexual preferences and self-identification. I would love to see your full explanation of why this is wrong for trans people, but right for incels.
-
Unless of course what you're actually suggesting is that the tech companies should hire hookers for their incels. Maybe a clarification is in order?
-
Tech companies have more options than firing people or making sex workers suffer. Provide rich counseling/therapy benefits. Lead by example, not tolerating harassment or discrimination by incels. Have a diverse enough staff to encourage fair product management/development. ???
-
Or how about this is none of their business and we should actually boycott/blacklist anyone who proposes that this is some of their business?
-
To be honest, this particular problem of authoritarians appealing to the tech megacorps to police people is going to solve itself naturally. The tech companies couldn't resist killing the golden goose.
-
These tech companies are doing well still. People refuse to use alternatives.
-
I was talking to someone the other day who said that soon the major social media channels are only going to be businesses and intelligence agencies talking to each other. It feels like we're halfway there already...
-
I wish. Sadly I think you are wrong.

You tech CEOs love to talk about benefits of working for your company. You're also surely smart enough to understand the "in" in "incel" means involuntary. Perhaps your employees would find company provided girlfriends more useful than a refrigerator full of Soylent.
