Sensorimotor adaptation experiments are an important experimental paradigm in examining brain processes involved in motor (& speech/voice motor) control. In speech/voice studies aspects of the acoustic signal are altered over time via auditory feedback (e.g. decrease in pitch) 2/

In response, speakers change their production in the direction opposite the shift (e.g. increase in pitch) so that their perceived production is closer to what they intended 3/

This process relies on an interplay between feedback control (detecting & correcting errors within a trial) & feedforward control (updating the motor command for the following trial). It’s difficult to disentangle the contribution of each system from behavioral data alone 4/

We developed
#SimpleDIVA, a 3-parameter model that estimates the relative contribution of feedforward and feedback control mechanisms to speech & voice sensorimotor adaptation. We then tested the model with 6 existing datasets collected in labs across the US and Australia 5/Prikaži ovu nit -
We showed that SimpleDIVA provides excellent fits to both speech (formants) and voice (f0) adaptation datasets, & the model parameters offer mechanistic explanations for the behavioral responses observed – even when using masking noise or perturbing more than one dimension 6/

The model code is
@MATLAB based but we compiled the code in such a way that you can use it without a license! The app comes with sample files and a detailed user manual to get you started – excellent as a teaching resource or for modeling your own data http://sites.bu.edu/guentherlab/software/simplediva-app/ … 7/Prikaži ovu nit -
