The left's entire "tax the billyunayuhs" shtick is predicated on the idea that the reason we don't have good public services is that we don't spend enough money. But 5 seconds of Googling shows that this is completely false.
We have more public spending on healthcare than most of our OECD peers. More public spending on education, even higher education. Prison spending is actually the one place we're lagging the rest of the civilized world, so of course Bernie chooses that as the thing to cut.
I mean, the Nordics so spend more on primary and secondary education than the US per student.
I think they spend less on tertiary, but more than the rest of Europe, and maybe more than the US if you exclude facilities and merrer.

This is the problem with taxes in the US. I think many would be fine with a higher overall tax rate if given tangible benefits like healthcare, education, child care, retirement, etc...but you can trust it doesnt just continue to get shoveled to DOD, pet projects, etc...
