God. What a quote.
If this is media criticism in 2022 I am here for it, but it's all a little dystopian and unsettling, isn't it?

Hundreds of millions of people make this tradeoff every year for much less money.
Yes it's dystopian. But so are aspects of modern life.
If Shawn can now spend the next 5 years straight with his family, does that give it a new perspective?

Agree with the dystopia
BUT
100 Days = 1 year of 8 hour workday + 2-way 48 min commute
Replace the yellow with
It's terrifying that a man spent 2400 min at a small cubicle in a drab office. It's even more terrifying that this is solely at the whims of a Machiavellian boss.

What Shawn should have done is AirBnB his house and move his family in with him in the circle.

I know it’s not the part you flagged, but it’s interesting that arguably more timeless television/video came out of the “monoculture tv networks” era (ie pre YouTube) than today’s limitless “no standards” environment. Will people be watching Mr. Beast in 10/20/50 years?

it’s really hard for me to not reductively apprehend modern media as designing purely to strip mine an eyeball-neurotransmitter-wallet attentional circuit (which evolves juxtapositions discovered to be high engagement like procedural videogame footage w/ life truisms voiceover)
